Real-axle shaft sticking out from one of the rear wheels and a driver error: both of the Qualifying Races on Sunday went wrong for the rookie of the FIA World Rallycross Championship. Because of these Krisztián didn’t get into the Semi-Finals this time and left Sweden with a 17th place which sadly meant zero points added to his name in the standings.

The “Magic weekend” in Höljes won’t be a great memory for EKS’ driver Krisztián Szabó, The Hungarian driver was 15th overnight in the 25-driver field, so he needed to improve positions in order to move up to the TOP 12 and participate in the Semi-Finals. However the chances of the Audi driver reduced to minimal due to a mechanical failure in Q3.

“In one of the corners the real-axle shaft just simply broke, I didn’t even have a contact before. From then on the car was undriveable, a part of the real-axle shaft was even sticking out from the middle of one of the rear wheels. After that in Q4 I needed to put all my eggs in one basket, I pushed as hard as I could. I made a mistake at the exit of the Joker and the back of the car touched the wall, I lost it and crashed” – spoke about his unfortunate weekend the two-time European Rallycross Champion.

“This weekend everything what shouldn’t have happened had happened: in Q2 the wet track, then the mechanical failure and my own mistake. The most annoying one was the broken rear-axle shaft, I lost a lot of time because of that. It was a huge bad luck, especially that in the Semi-Finals Bakkerud retired with the same problem. Obviously in Q4 it was my own mistake, but it’s not that annoying, because again it was on a drying track and even if I finish the race with a good time I wouldn’t have got into the Semi-Finals. I can’t do anything about what happened in Q2 and Q3. If I get stuck behind somebody or I make a bad start it’s my mistake, but I can’t do much if the track is drying, the weather conditions are changing or the rear-axle shaft breaks. But rallycross is like this, if once you get into either a good or a bad situation you usually stay in it for the whole weekend. I hope that next time Canada will be a better one!”
