The only permanent Hungarian driver of the FIA World Rallycross Championship was once again a semi-finalist in Canada. Just one week after his wedding Krisztián needed to do well at a track where he has never driven before. The EKS driver is generally satisfied with the weekend as he managed to stay out of chaos.
Seven rounds of ten are over in the 2019 campaign of the FIA World Rallycross Championship: the previous round took place in the streets of Trois-Riviéres, Canada, at a fast, but challenging track, which has even forced some frontrunners into an error. Mattias Ekström’s team’s, EKS’ driver, Krisztián Szabó -not to end his weekend in the wall- continued to increase his pace on a race by race basis during the two days. As a result, Krisztián got into the Semi-Finals, in the TOP 12.

“In Q3 my start was fantastic, I arrived at the first corner with Marklund, however we touched a bit. As a result Benett was able to overtake me and I fell back to last place. In Q4 although I finished behind Kevin Hansen, my lap times were better than his. My lap times kept improving at both races on Sunday, but it was a disadvantage that I haven’t been to this track before and it took a while to fully get used to its layout” – talked through Krisztián what happened on Sunday. The Hungarian driver was 12th in the Intermediate Classification after the Qualifying Races, so the next race he was facing was Semi-Final 2.
“I have to admit that I was extremely lucky to get into the Semi-Final. The last race of Q4 was chaotic, even Timmy Hansen hasn’t managed to get in the TOP 12. In the Semi-Final I have already done my Joker lap in the first lap, which I think was a good decision. However I didn’t expect the huge clouds of dust, I didn’t see a thing in two important parts of the track, I made mistakes at these places twice. I also lost time due to Doran and Scheider’s spin, and in the end I finished 5th in my Semi-Final.”
“If I don’t make a mistake, the Final could have been possible, because in the end my pace was good. Maybe the results doesn’t show that, but I had many successful moments during this weekend, so I am not disappointed. I am pleased that I managed to stay out of the big mess ups. The next race is in Lohéac, France, at the last weekend of August, which is finally a track where I have raced with a Supercar before. I am really looking forward to it and hoping to finish it with a great result!” – said the two-time European Rallycross Champion. After many unfamiliar circuits, Lohéac is finally a one where he has raced there many times.
