After that the last two races were not quite successful for Szabó, luck returned to his side at Silverstone: the two-time European Rallycross Champion got into the Final for the second time since his debut in Abu Dhabi.

The fourth round of the 2019 FIA World Rallycross Championship started well for Krisztián Szabó: at the end of Saturday he was 4th in the Qualifying Classification, despite unlike most of his rivals he hasn’t raced at the legendary track before. World RX’s only Hungarian driver with his easily recognizable white Audi S1 EKS RX Quattro was only 15th in Q3. This result dropped him backwards quite much.

In the Semi-Finals however unlike the previous two weekends at Barcelona and Spa Krisz performed well, and after his first World RX weekend in Abu Dhabi he got into the Final once again. He finished the season opener race 4th, now he crossed the line 5th in Great Britain.

“Q3 didn’t go that well- After the start there were some battles going on in the first corner, I lost places there. In one of the corners I made a small mistake, therefore I needed to slow down as I didn’t want to run off. I hit the tyre barrier after someone hit me in the back, that’s why I finished only 15th. Q4 was better, I finished 8th there which meant 4th place on the grid in Semi-Final 2” – summarized the 26-year-old driver Q3 and Q4.

“After the start of the Semi-Final there were some big fights, I was trying to stay out of it. I was running 6th and I saw something was going to happen, so I prepared to take advantage of it. As I expected they collided, Joni Wiman rolled over, and the race was suspended. Luckily for me the decision was to have a new race, where Wiman couldn’t line up, so I have already won one place. In the end we, all three Audi drivers got into the Final.”

“I started the Final from 5th place and I crossed the finish line at the same place. It was the maximum I could have got this weekend. I am satisfied, there were some good moments today and finally luck was on my side. I am staying 9th in the championship, but in front of me the guys are very close to each other. I hope I can keep this pace and as I get more experienced I will move further up in the standings” – ended Krisz.
