Although he was a bit afraid of the closeness of the walls, the Hungarian driver is now getting more and more used to the circuit he drives on for the first time. Following Saturday Krisztián is 10th in the overnight classification, and as this track seems to suit to Audi, he has the chance to gain positions on Sunday.
At the first weekend of August, the seventh round of the 2019 FIA World Rallycross Championship, the World RX of Canada takes place in Trois-Riviéres. This weekend, Krisztián Szabó’s white Audi S1 EKS RX Quattro was standing out from the field of 16 drivers with a ‘Just Married” label on it: the team’s congratulation message for Hungarian driver’s wedding, which took place at Vác a week ago. The two-time European Rallycross Champion has never been to the city circuit of Trois-Riviéres before, therefore because of the track’s characteristic the first day on Saturday was all about the continuous improvement of the pace.

“In the beginning it was surprising to see how narrow the track is, it’s surrounded by walls on both sides and there are 90-degree turns almost everywhere with concrete corners in mid-corners. To be honest I was a bit afraid of the closeness of these walls. At the Free Practice sessions I haven’t really managed to get used to the track, Q1 was slightly better, and in Q2 I came 7th, which is not a bad result, but I can do better. To tell the truth, for me this track is very challenging, but I am adapting more and more to it by each corner and my lap times are showing an improvement” – said the driver of EKS, who is currently at 10th place overnight.
“There is a place on the track where I lose a few tenths of a second and besides that a few corners where I lose less. I want to improve at these parts of the track and I will be good for Sunday. The other two Audis, Bakkerud and Dora is doing well. They are not driving on this track for the first time, but for me it is only good that they are fast, because I know that the car is great and I can learn a lot from them to get closer to my limits.”
